Hi, I’m Delany! I’m a married stay-at-home mom of 3, and a Registered Dietitian passionate about food, family, and frugal living!
Are you living on a limited income and looking for ways to save money? Then you came to the right place!
Welcome to the Educated Homemaker, where I share my real-time journey from a one-income newbie to (hopefully!) an experienced homemaker making educated decisions for my family. I’m so glad you’re here!
My Story:
I’ve always wanted to be a mom, but never envisioned staying home. Like most naive new moms, I thought I would be able to balance career and family, but when my son was born, my world flipped. Suddenly, I couldn’t imagine sending him away all day! After an excruciating year of pumping, teary daycare drop-off, and getting sick every other week (including 6 weeks of Mono), I was exhausted, burnt out, and desperate.
As a working mom, I had no time or motivation to grocery shop or cook, so we ate pasta or take-out nearly every night. We didn’t know how to track spending, we weren’t eating well, and we weren’t happy. After a year, I quit my job to stay at home and better manage family life. With only one income, I had to learn to shop sales, meal plan, and cook from scratch, but we finally found peace.
Since then, I’ve had two more children and continued to learn to live frugally and find side hustles for extra income when things get tight.
This blog is designed to share my path to becoming an industrious, Midwest-style woman. The grandma type who can whip up a meal from scratch with barely any notice, gives hugs and casseroles generously, and always knows how much is too much to pay for cream of mushroom soup. If I can become something near that goal, then I think I’ll have become an Educated Homemaker.
Join me as I learn to save money, cook from scratch, and spend more quality time with my family!
