Hi, I’m a Minnesotan mom, wife, and Registered Dietitian passionate about food and family!
Welcome to the Educated Homemaker where I share my real-time journey from beginner stay at home mom on a single income to (hopefully!) an experienced homemaker making educated decisions for my family. I’m so glad you’re here!
My Story:
I’ve always wanted to be a mom but never envisioned staying home. Like most naive new moms I thought I would be able to balance career and family but when my son was born my world flipped. Suddenly I couldn’t imagine sending him away all day! Seasoned moms, told me to push through the first year and the pit in my stomach would eventually disappear. After an excruciating year of pumping, teary daycare drop off, and getting sick every 2 weeks (including 6 weeks of Mono) I was exhausted, burnt out, and the pit in my stomach had doubled in size.
As a working mom I had no time or motivation to grocery shop or cook so we ate pasta or take-out nearly every night. We couldn’t stay on budget, we weren’t eating well, and we weren’t happy. After a year I quit my job to stay at home. Our budget tightened so I’ve had to learn to shop sales, meal plan, and cook from scratch but we’ve finally found peace.
This blog is designed to share my path to becoming an industrious, Midwest style woman. The grandma type who can whip up a meal from scratch with barely any notice, gives hugs and casseroles generously, and always know how much is too much to pay for cream of mushroom soup. If I can become something near that goal then I think I’ll have become an Educated Homemaker.
Join me as I learn to save money, cook from scratch, and spend more quality time with my family!
